126 Years of Family Serving Family – Deb Sloan, Fort Knox

One in a series honoring the Exchange’s 126 years of family serving family

Deb Sloan has been serving the military community for 44 years, all at Fort Knox, and has no plans to retire.

Sloan began her Exchange career busing tables in the Exchange Cafeteria. When it closed 16 years later, she moved to the food court for 11 years. Then Sloan realized that she wanted a change and to expand her knowledge with the Exchange, so she became a customer experience associate, which she’s been doing for the past 17 years.

“It’s my favorite job because I like talking to people and helping them,” said Sloan. “The Exchange has been good to me, especially now that I have a grandbaby.”

She’s not the only one in the family who knows about service.

“My husband was drafted and served two years as an MP (military police) in Germany in 1969-1971,” said Sloan.

When she worked in the cafeteria, she received a coin from someone, but she doesn’t remember who.

“I didn’t know what it was at the time,” said Sloan.

Just a few years ago she received another one, this time from Exchange Director/CEO Tom Shull, to mark her 40 years of serving those who serve.
