Who she is:  Rhonda Moncrief, Human Resources Support Center manager, Exchange Headquarters

Years with the Exchange: Celebrating 30 years in June

What brought her to the Exchange: Moncrief’s first visit to Lackland AFB, for her twin brother’s graduation from basic training, piqued her interest in the Exchange. After she met a recruiter at her college job fair, she was sold on the Exchange as a career. “I learned more about the Exchange and its mission and felt working for the Exchange was my opportunity to give back to the military community,” Moncrief said.

Where she has worked: Starting out in retail with several years as a sales area manager, Moncrief spent most of her career in Human Resources, including positions as learning facilitator, Human Resources manager; regional Human Resources manager, leadership development manager, HQ Human Resources manager, and her current role as HR Support Center manager.

Her first role:  After completing the Exchange Retail Management Training Program as a college trainee, Moncrief became the sales area manager at Aberdeen Proving Ground.

Current role and responsibilities: Moncrief manages the Human Resources Support Center (HRSC), which includes the call center, centralized processing team, HR programs team and workers compensation team.

Memorable moment: “While stationed in Japan at Camp Zama, a snowstorm hit the area, shutting down the entire base,” she said. “Since my husband and I lived a half mile from base and were both Exchange associates, the general manager asked us to open the Shoppette, to ensure Soldiers had essential items. With no experience running a Shoppette, we grossed the highest sales ever at the time and received coins from the base commander for our efforts.”

Military connection: “My brother retired as a chief master sergeant from the Air Force, my brother-in-law and nephew were in the Navy, and I have several nieces, nephews and their spouses who currently serve in the Air Force,” Moncrief said.

Family serving family: “The Exchange is where I met my husband, who retired from the Exchange,” she said. “The Exchange has been very good to our family. I’ve had the opportunity to live around the world. Both my kids were born in different countries, one in Japan and the other Germany. I used the Tuition Assistance Program to get my master’s degree. Working for the Exchange has truly been a blessing.”

What family serving family means to her: “As a single person, moving from Florida to Maryland, I found comfort in the support of families who invited me over for holidays,” Moncrief said. “The military community provided a lifeline and a group of people who were always there to help. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Exchange organization and for the opportunity to give back to the community.”
